1. What cookies are and how they are used
Cookies are small text strings that websites send to a user’s device, where they are stored and then sent back to the same sites on subsequent visits. Two broad categories: technical cookies and profiling cookies.
a. Cookie tecnici

b. Cookie di profilazione
They create user profiles and deliver ads aligned with expressed preferences. They require notice and explicit consent (Art. 122(1) of the Italian Code).
2. Cookie duration
Some cookies remain active only until the browser is closed (“session” cookies); others persist beyond the session (“persistent” cookies). They can be first-party (managed by the site owner) or third-party (managed by external parties).
- Session cookies: stored for technical/functional needs, deleted when the browser closes.
- Persistent cookies: remain stored until expiry or deletion by the user; they can improve experience (e.g., language) or serve promotional purposes.
- First-party: managed directly by the site owner.
- Third-party: managed by entities external to the visited site.
3. How cookies work and how to delete them

- Block third-party cookies: not essential for browsing and can be refused via browser settings.
- Do Not Track: when enabled, sites should stop collecting certain browsing data (not all sites honor it).
- Private/Incognito browsing: avoids storing history and new cookies, but does not guarantee anonymity online.
- Direct deletion: available on all browsers; since new cookies download on each connection, repeat periodically.
